Good News For Global Entrepreneurs! Foreign Startups Can Stay in U.S. For 5 Years

The U.S. is making it easier for startups, business owners and entrepreneurs to extend their stay.  Remember the Obama-era program called the International Entrepreneurs Rule (IER)?

Under this programme, foreign entrepreneurs were initially allowed to stay in the US for two-and-a-half years. Now, according to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), they can remain for up to five years if their ventures meet specific criteria such as funding milestones and job creation.

Bold Global Entrepreneurialism at Edelman

Global PR firm Edelman, founded in Chicago in 1952, named Lisa Osborne Ross as CEO of its U.S. operations.  Lisa is the first Black woman to lead a sizable business in the public relations field.  She will oversee Edelman’s largest region, covering 2,360 employees in 13 offices.

The firm said the new leadership will help it innovate and expand into what its global CEO, Richard Edelman, called “bold entrepreneurialism.” It has been researching ways to help clients build trust in their brands and operations.

We are also super excited to see our friend and colleague, Dan Webber, newly appointed to President of Edelman's D.C. office.

Congrats to Lisa and Dan.  We can't wait to see what great strides they make on behalf of Edelman.

The Future of Tech Entrepreneurship Across Borders

Invigorated by the promise of innovation, global entrepreneurs take it upon themselves to embrace the potential of the largely nascent and uncertain.

Whether it’s a mindset or a process to be mastered, the changing face and the future of tech entrepreneurship is poised to carry critical ramifications for the wider global economy.

In its 2018 World Economic Outlook report, the International Monetary Fund asserted that globalization was responsible for the acceleration of cross-border innovation. The growing emphasis on international collaboration, as well as trade and the use of patents, has significantly impacted production and innovation, especially in emerging economies.

Turning Small Indian Firms into Global Entrepreneurs

Many home-grown Indian manufacturers and sellers are profiting from the business models and facilitation offered by India-focused multinationals such as Walmart and Amazon.  Mumbai-based Indo Count Industries is one of them -- considered the fastest-growing suppliers of home textiles in the US and European markets.

Walmart, with its sourcing model, and Amazon, by offering a Global Selling Programme, are raising the aspirational bar on small Indian businesses, elevating them to earn the coveted tag of ‘global entrepreneurs’.

• Walmart sets up global sourcing centre in Bengaluru that sources India-made products for catering to 14 foreign markets; it procures over 95 per cent of the goods sold in Best Price stores from local companies.
