Where Do We Go From Here on Port Congestion?

©iStock/viavado
What's driving port congestion?  As C.H. Robinson says:

Right now, many retailers have a backlog of inventory in their warehouses, and frankly do not have room for more. While that, in part, explains why retail peak season will look very different this year, it does not explain why relief is not being felt at the ports.

Even if we experience a late or mild peak of imports later this year or no peak at all, port challenges won’t be going away anytime soon. While each supply chain is unique and requires an equally unique strategy, there are some things you can consider to help you mitigate today’s disruption.

Read on to determine whether shippers can expect relief soon and what to do in the meantime.

What It Takes to Generate Value-Creating Growth in 2022

©iStock/Yuril Karvatskyi
To buck these trends – slowing global economy, rising inflation, and geopolitical uncertainty – business leaders need to follow a holistic growth blueprint consisting of three core elements:

  1. A bold aspiration and accompanying mindset
  2. The right enablers embedded in the organization
  3. And clear pathways in the form of a coherent set of growth initiatives

To understand how organizations can try to overcome obstacles, McKinsey & Company studied the growth patterns and performance of the world’s 5,000 largest public companies over the past 15 years through various lenses.

Their findings suggest ten imperatives that should guide organizations seeking to outgrow and outearn their peers.  And No. 8 is:  Go global if you can beat local.  Expand internationally if you have a transferable advantage.

Find out what it takes to generate value-creating growth for a business.

©iStock/Darren415
If Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is falling, then the economy is shrinking - bad news for businesses and workers. If GDP falls for two quarters in a row, that is known as a recession, which can mean pay freezes and lost jobs.

The Global Plastics Outlook Through 2060

©iStock/ Kriengsak Tarasri
In recent years, growing awareness of ubiquitous plastic pollution has steered public opinion and paved the way for stronger policy intervention on this front. The OECD Global Plastics Outlook reports seek to inform and support these efforts.

Plastic pollution is one of the great environmental challenges of the 21st century, causing wide-ranging damage to ecosystems and human health, while the fossil-fuel origins of most of the plastics produced have implications for climate change. Yet plastics have become an integral part of the global economy, being used in almost all economic sectors.
