St. Patrick's Day is my favorite day of the year (see past posts here). Above are pictures from the Chicago's St. Patrick's celebration Saturday, March 15th when the Chicago river is dyed green as part of the festivities.  If you look closely at the top photo, you can see the dye absorbing into the water.

Have a great day and remember, everyone is Irish on St. Patty's Day! All it takes is a wear'n of a bit of green, a smile and a twinkle in the eye.

My absolute favorite day of the year -- St. Patrick's Day in Chicago -- when the Chicago River is dyed green and local folks put on a fabulous parade.  

As the late Stephen Bailey has said:

... the road from Chicago to Ireland is marked in green. From the Chicago River to the Illinois River, then to the Mississippi, up the Gulf Stream and across the Atlantic you can see the beautiful green enter the Irish Sea, clearly marking the way from Chicago to Ireland.

I [Laurel Delaney] will be keeping it simple on St. Patrick's Day slurping my Shamrock Shake.  But for those who want to shake it up and live in San Diego, here are a few interesting places to enjoy a bit of Irish fun, food and beverage.  Oh, and for the Chicago folks, Eli's Cheesecake has some good stuff going on with their Green River Cheesecake, yum. 

Whatever you do, please continue to mask up, be safe, stay healthy and wear a bit of green while having all your fun!  

Everyone Is Irish On St. Patrick's Day

In celebration of St. Patrick's Day Tuesday, Chicago traditionally dyes the Chicago River a bright emerald green (as pictured) which they did this morning.

The annual parade is taking place as I write this (3/14/09 at 1:25 p.m. CDT) and rest assured, with a name like Delaney (from Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, Ireland) ... I am wearing every green item I own.

Today is a Day When Everyone in the World is Irish or Wishes They Were!

Happy St. Patrick's Day -- my favorite day of the year! We'll start with a little bit of history and add an Irish Blessing:

May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day.
May songbirds serenade you every step along the way.
May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that's always blue.
And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.
