The Mark of Zara on the Global E-commerce Front

Zara has big plans to go global with e-commerce.

The retailer has increased its focus on web operations and investments in technology, ranging from applications to track stock to virtual reality in dressing rooms.
[Zara] plans to make clothes from its Zara label and other brands available online anywhere in the world within two years, aiming to become one of the first truly global clothiers as Amazon.com Inc. (No. 1) encroaches into fashion.

Lost in Sizing Translation

European imports like Moschino, Zara, Mango and H&M are wildly popular. I know. I buy those brands quite often.

But try translating the sizes to American. For example, when I try on an H&M jacket in my regular size, it feels two sizes too small.

Global Expansion Boosts Profits for Zara Parent Inditex

What can an entrepreneur or small business owner learn from Inditex (owner of Zara), the world's largest clothing retailer? Plenty.

First, Zara delivers new models of clothing to its stores twice a week (lesson: depending on the industry, speed counts).

Second, emerging market consumers will account for sixty percent (60%) of global luxury goods sales in 2020, up from 40 percent in 2009, according to an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein (lesson: emerging markets are worth a look).

Lastly:
The goal for every luxury company, wherever their clients are, “is to keep people coming back into stores with new products,” analyst Farren said. “That’s what consumers want.”
