Happy Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) which is an annual, international initiative that celebrates and supports entrepreneurs through a week of events, competitions, and activities held in November.

The week-long event runs for one week each November.  For 2025, it is November 17-23.  

It's an opportunity for aspiring founders, seasoned business owners, and other innovators to connect with mentors, collaborators, and fellow entrepreneurs.

November is Global Entrepreneurship Month

November is officially Global Entrepreneurship Month according to Washington Gov. Jay Inslee because entrepreneurship is seriously important to a state's economy.

“More than 90 percent of our state’s businesses are small businesses,” stated Lisa Brown, Department of Commerce director. “They are the lifeblood of local economies, creating jobs that strengthen communities. Global Entrepreneurship Month is a unique opportunity for everyone to explore the idea of starting a business and being their own boss.”

This month-long series of events is part of an international celebration of entrepreneurship that dates back to 2008. More than 170 countries participate in Global Entrepreneurship Week in November, which is supported by the Kauffman Foundation.

New Gen Startup Campus in Johannesburg, South Africa

Virgin Group founder, Sir Richard Branson, will open the 10th anniversary celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) by participating in the launch of a new startup campus in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The campus is the first one opened by the Global Entrepreneurship Network - offering direct and virtual support services to entrepreneurs throughout Africa as well as access to an international network of mentors, investors and entrepreneurial support organizations.

How a Week in Entrepreneurship Became Global

In two weeks, Global Entrepreneurship Week kicks off with more than 40,000 events spread out over a seven day period in 123 countries with nearly 10 million fans across the planet.

Above all, what excites me (from Jonathan Ortmans) about Global Entrepreneurship Week is how it has become truly global. While we know innovation itself is blind to national borders, Global Entrepreneurship Week is showing us that the innovators too seem to have more in common with each other than their own elders. They now form a gloriously messy cacophony of informal startup networks fueled by the challenges of a less predictable and more decentralized world.
