The U.S. Department of State asked me to write the lead article "Women Entrepreneurs Energize Economies," as part of the current eJournal USA issue "Enterprising Women, Thriving Societies."

May it inspire all individuals -- men and women alike -- to pursue their dream of becoming an entrepreneur.  There's a section tips on how to start a business -- you won't want to miss it.

Hi

I am a woman in my late 40's. Several years ago my life had changed when my first husband passed away, leaving me with a 5 year old daughter. The job I was working at suddenly wanted me to work eveningss - why should I work evenigs when my kid is in school in the day? I would never see her. I took at travel and tourism course, eager to go into that industry, but graduated right before 9/11. So I made another choice - open up my own business - a small retail pet supply store.

While it seems like you have more freedoms when you are the business owner, you also have more stress. I honestly have seen both sides, being an employee, and woman business owner - I just want to say to all the ladies out there, it is tough either way.

Great blog.
