Globalization's Next Phase is a Rewiring

According to a new report from consulting firm McKinsey, globalization is changing course — that much is clear.  But don’t call it a retreat, it’s just “reconfiguring," or "rewiring."

Today, international businesses are confronting the “complexities of an increasingly contested global order” where war, national security, supply-chain disruptions and technological change are all driving a shift in global trade flows.  The result of this shift, according to McKinsey, is that some supply chains could “shorten and become more regional” in the coming years.

Next Wave of Globalization? Remote Workforce

As the article penned by Jackie Bischof, Deputy membership editor for Quartz says, "globalization—the ideal of an interconnected world—is predicated on the idea that we are stronger working together than split apart."  But, she goes on to say, "it has proven politically divisive, in large part because its costs and benefits have not been shared equally." 

If the expansion of remote work makes it easier and more common to work with colleagues across borders, could it also make globalization more popular?
