Set An Export Goal: Start With One Country

According to Jay Taylor, general manager, Torklift (http://www.torklift.com) experienced tremendous growth when the recession hit in 2008, in large part because people in the U.S. and around the world rediscovered camping as a low cost vacation option.

Torklift fabricates precision crafted trailer hitches, related RV towing equipment, and powdercoat and sand blasting.  Sales have increased about 20 to 25 percent each year since 2008, and in 2011 Torklift moved to a new 52,000-square-foot facility in Sumner, Washington to meet growing demand.

In 2015 the company set a goal of increasing export sales, starting with Australia.  The rest is history.

Should You Invest in Global Market Research?

Euromonitor International, experts in strategy research for consumer markets, has put together a 16-page report (2013), "Investing in Global Market Research:  A Strategic Guide for Small to Medium Sized-Enterprises."

The guide covers assessing the value of market research and common uses for market research among SMEs and start-ups.  Page 7 shows a nice infographic on keys to success in small business.  My favorite part is Page 10, which says:  "More than ever before, companies of all sizes are exporting.  In fact, the biggest business in the world is international trading."  There are some good case studies featured as well.  Worth a read.
