The Importance of Entrepreneurship For Global Development

President Obama announced this week (March 31st) that he will visit Kenya for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in July.  It will be his first trip to the country and his fourth to sub-Saharan Africa during his presidency.

The Global Entrepreneurship Summit brings together business owners, educators, policymakers and investors to support the growth of new enterprises in developing regions.  President Obama has supported the annual meetings since 2009.

Entrepreneurship can transform the world by solving problems, creating jobs and boosting economies.

Depending On Global Trade? We've Got You Covered.

While en route to Mexico this week, President Obama signed what the administration is calling an executive order on "streamlining the export/import process" while he was aboard Air Force One as he made his way to the North America Leaders Summit.  What does the order mean?  It will reduce the wait time (= cut red tape) for businesses exporting goods and services outside the USA.

"This Executive Order is especially important to small and medium companies that depend on global trade," a White House statement said. "Once fully implemented, the ITDS [International Trade Data System] will dramatically reduce the time and expense for businesses to move the more than 50 million containers and $3.8 trillion worth of goods that cross our borders each year."

Lower Barriers to Green Trade

Letter to President Obama: "Lower trade barriers to green goods and services."

Several trade associations recently sent a letter (that includes the above remark) to President Obama pushing the Administration to pursue a quick conclusion of a comprehensive Environmental Goods and Services Agreement. The associations asked the president to use multiple channels to lower trade barriers to green goods and services, including the World Trade Organization (WTO), other economic forums, and climate negotiations.
